Thank you for choosing to compete in the USSSA CALVIN STRONG CLASSIC!

This event started in 2015 to recognize Calvin Clark. Calvin was a member of the Indiana Blazers Baseball Club and suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury in the fall of 2014. Calvin is a warrior that continues to inspire us to this day. In addition to being an incredible athlete, he is a great person!

Each complex will open 90 minutes before the first game of the day and all diamonds will be unlocked at least 60 minutes prior to the first game of the day.

NORTH VERNON CITY PARK

• Batting cages are available to use at the facility (located just outside of the North entrance)

• COACH PASSES:
  • All coaches should use the South entrance to the fields to receive their coach pass. For easiest access to this entrance, enter the park from the stop light located at the intersection of State Street and Franklin Street

JENNINGS COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL

 TOURNAMENT FORMAT & DIVISION NOTES 

14AA DIVISION

Each team will play two pool play games on Friday/Saturday. Pool play games will be played at Ceraland Sports Complex and Jennings County High School. The top ten teams from pool play advance to the single elimination Championship Bracket on Sunday. The bottom four teams from pool play will play in the single elimination Consolation Bracket on Sunday. All bracket games will be played at Ceraland Sports Complex.

11AA DIVISION

 Each team will play two pool play games on Saturday at either Ceraland Sports Complex or North Vernon City Park. All teams advance to the single elimination Championship Bracket on Sunday at Ceraland Sports Complex.

9AA DIVISION

The 9AA division in the Calvin Strong Classic is playing with OPEN BASES: Leadoffs, dropped third strike and infield fly rule are all in play

8KP DIVISION

 Each team will play two pool play games on Saturday. The top two teams from each pool advance to single elimination Championship Bracket 1 on Sunday. The bottom two teams from each pool advance to single elimination Championship Bracket 2 on Sunday. Champions and Finalists of both brackets receive awards.

The 8u Kid Pitch division uses the same rules that are listed in the Indiana USSSA Rules Packet for the 9u A/AA divisions:

• No Leadoffs
  • A player cannot leave the base until the ball has crossed the plate
    • If a player leaves the base before the ball crosses the plate he will be declared out
• No Dropped Third Strike
  • A batter is automatically out on a dropped/missed third strike by the catcher
• No Infield Fly Rule
  • Infield fly rule is NOT used

ALL OTHER DIVISIONS

 Each team will play two pool play games on Friday/Saturday. All teams advance to the single elimination Championship Bracket on Sunday.

 AWARDS & MERCHANDISE 

Champions and Finalists of the Championship Bracket in each division receive awards! Additionally, each player on any 1st or 2nd place team receives an automatic invitation to the Ohio Valley All-State Showcase! See below for All-State Showcase details. Event t-shirts and other merchandise will be available to purchase on-site at the tournament.

 TOURNAMENT RULES 

Indiana USSSA Rules, National USSSA Rules & Official Baseball Rules

All players must be listed on your team’s online USSSA roster. Player names and DOB must match their official birth certificate. Please ensure all players and guest players are added to your team’s online roster by Thursday at 11:59pm.

TURF FIELD & PORTABLE PITCHING MOUND RULES

7u-12u teams are not allowed to wear metal cleats on ANY playing surface. ALL players at ALL ages are not allowed to wear metal cleats on any turf field at any USSSA event in Indiana. Metal cleats are not allowed on any portable pitching mounds and are also not allowed in the outfield on fields that have turf infields. Additionally, chewing gum and sunflower seeds are not permitted on turf fields. Failure to comply with any of these rules may result in ejections or forfeiture of the game.

TIME LIMITS

• Coach Pitch, 8KP & 9A Divisions
  • 1 Hour 30 Minutes
  • 1 Hour 40 Minutes (Championship Game)

• 9AA – 14U Divisions
  • 1 Hour 40 Minutes
  • 2 Hours (Championship Game)

• No new inning may be started after time has expired
• All teams must be ready to play 20 minutes prior to the scheduled start time

GAME SCORECARDS

Each head coach must sign the scorecard immediately after the game, confirming the final score of the game and the innings pitched by each individual player that pitched. It is the responsibility of each coach to ensure all information on the scorecard is correct. Once the card has been signed, it is official.
